Artist Statement
I have been making large (6 to 10 feet tall) wooden constructions since 1996. My original intention was to suggest an artefact that might stand on a lonely shore somewhere, possibly signalling something, or a monument, or something left behind by an alien race. I like to improvise rather than plan it all out in advance and use second hand timber when feasible, also to incorporate found objects where they seem to fit.
I have made 13 of these objects now and they have branched in various directions e.g. towards forms of transport, or possibly organic forms. Each seems to develop it’s own personality when complete and I try to make the names reflect that.
